Forest restoration and afforestation

Forest restoration and afforestation are essential parts of our activity and farming in forests.

The main objective of this activity is to preserve and enhance Lithuanian forests and their resources, to ensure rational use of the resources and to increase the productivity of the stands. We follow the principles of sustainable forestry, restore all areas that have been harvested (approx. 9100 ha) and plant more than 600 ha of new forest every year. Planting stock for forest restoration and afforestation is grown at tree nurseries, managed by the State Forest Enterprise.

Afforestation

This is one of the most important measures for increasing forest cover. From selected and genetically reliable seeds, prepared in our modern seed processing facility in Dubrava, we annually grow 50 million seedlings suitable for afforestation and reforestation. Each year, we afforest more than 600 hectares of new forests.

Reforestation

Forests are restored by planting on plots where trees have been felled through planned cuttings or by addressing the aftermath of natural disasters, pest invasions, or tree diseases. Each year, we restore approximately 9,100 hectares of state forests.
