National Tree Planting Event “Kad giria žaliuotų”
On April 20th, the Lithuanian State Forest Enterprise, the Ministry of Environment and the Lithuanian National Culture Center invited everyone to the National Tree Planting Event “Kad giria žaliuotų”. This tree planting celebration, a tradition spanning several decades, brings together adults, children, communities, companies, and organizations. This year, the event celebrated the centenary of the Lithuanian Song Festival by planting trees in 100 forests across Lithuania. A record number of volunteers gathered to join foresters in expressing their love for the forest and songs.

Birdhouse Hanging Festival “Paukščiai grįžta namo” – Let’s Welcome the Returning Birds Together!
Every March, foresters across Lithuania invite everyone to welcome the returning birds and provide them with new homes during the traditional birdhouse hanging festival “Paukščiai grįžta namo”. The event attracts forest lovers and students from the youth gathering Young Friends of the Forest from all over Lithuania. Each year, foresters from the Lithuanian State Forest Enterprise hang over 8,000 birdhouses, offering new homes to the returning birds.

Initiative “Parsinešk Kalėdas į savo namus”
Before the biggest holidays of the year – Christmas, foresters from the State Forest Enterprise gift spruce branches to residents in town squares across Lithuanian cities and towns. This traditional initiative “Parsinešk Kalėdas į savo namus” has been held for over a decade. Through this initiative, foresters encourage people not to cut young spruce trees or break their branches, promoting sustainable and eco-friendly consumption. During the event, over 100,000 spruce branches are distributed across Lithuania, bringing Christmas joy to people’s homes. In 2023, foresters, in collaboration with volunteers from the Lithuanian Red Cross, decorated the homes of 3,000 lonely seniors with spruce branches.

The Lithuanian State Forest Enterprise Invites You to Purchase Christmas Trees Annually
As the most beautiful and anticipated holiday of the year, Christmas, approaches, the Lithuanian State Forest Enterprise invites you to adorn your home with a real, forest-scented spruce tree. The Lithuanian State Forest Enterprise organizes the sale of Christmas trees across Lithuania, available at 25 regional units and forestry areas.
Forester’s Day Events
Every September, the Lithuanian State Forest Enterprise invites everyone to celebrate Forester’s Day together. Throughout the month, foresters from various regions of Lithuania organize hikes, excursions, evening deer bellowing sessions and other interesting and educational activities. All events are free.

Cleanup event “Miško kuopa”
To clean forests of litter, which causes pollution and fire hazards in Lithuanian forests, and to educate the society about sustainable and responsible behaviour in nature, the traditional foresters’ events now include the September forest cleanup event “Miško kuopa”. This event gathers citizens from all over Lithuania who are committed to keeping the forests clean.

Initiative “Eglutė gyvenimui”
In December 2021, for the first time, a joint initiative titled “Eglutė gyvenimui” was organized in collaboration with Vilnius University Hospital Santaros Clinics Blood Center. During this event, foresters gifted a Christmas tree to individuals who donated blood. Notably, the tree gifted to each blood donor was presented in a pot, allowing every donor to plant it in spring. This symbolic act enabled the tree to continue growing and thriving, reflecting the significance of good deeds. The initiative has since become a beautiful annual tradition.

Initiative “Eglutė”
Strengthening collaboration with partners and aiming to remind society of the rules for visiting forests, principles of sustainable forest resource utilization, basic traffic rules and drawing attention to violations in the forests, the Lithuanian State Forest Enterprise partnered with the Lithuanian Police to organize the joint initiative “Eglutė”. During this initiative, foresters and police officers gifted Christmas trees to drivers stopped for checks. The event, held in December, has become an annual tradition.
