CO-FINANCED FROM EUROPEAN UNION STRUCTURAL FUNDS PROJECT NO. 05.4.1.-APVA-V-017-01-0006 “RENOVATION OF THE ARBORETUM OF DUBRAVA EXPERIMENTAL-EDUCATIONAL FOREST OFFICE”

Project no. 05.4.1.-APVA-V-017-01-0006 “Renovation of the arboretum of VĮ Dubravas experimental-educational forestry office” is financed by the 2014-2020 European Union funds investment action program priority 5 “Environmental protection, sustainable use of natural resources and adaptation to climate change” ” measures “Informing the public about the environment and management of environmental-recreational objects”. The amount of project eligible costs is EUR 134,400. 134,400.00 euros from the European Regional Development Fund (85% of the eligible costs) and the state budget of the Republic of Lithuania (15% of the eligible costs) have been allocated for the implementation of the project. Project activities are expected to end on December 31, 2020.

During the implementation of the Project, the infrastructure of the arboretum was fundamentally updated for the convenience of visitors – old paths were renewed, benches and trash cans were built, bicycle racks were installed. In the entire arboretum, non-viable plants that have lost their value have been removed, and old bushes have been rejuvenated.A tractor was bought for mowing and maintenance of the arboretum area.

180 plants have been planted in the main area of ​​the arboretum (plant collection section), which complements the collection of the most important genera of woody plants.

During the project, in the expanded and newly fenced section of pine and heather plants, woody plant expositions were created and updated in an aesthetically attractive and comfortable way for visitors. About 360 plants are planted in it, most of them pines and heathers, as well as other valuable and highly decorative trees and shrubs, and a number of representatives of the latest varieties. The section was expanded by connecting to it the old collection section with the area of ​​almost 0.8 ha with the oldest trees of the arboretum and an additional plot of about 1.4 ha with a pond, which was previously abandoned. In the additionally connected plot, new paths were built, the pond was cleaned and a bridge was installed over it, and a gazebo was built.

In the exposition of rare trees and shrubs, the paths were renewed with the project funds, and 210 pieces of rare trees and shrubs were planted.

All sections have newly planted plants and many of the old ones are labeled. After erecting information stands introducing the arboretum and the purpose of its collections and the peculiarities of the exhibited plants, an arboretum information system for visitors was created.
